I was invited by Bath Spa University to run workshops during this academic year for their first year students, to introduce them to weave as a constructed textile technique.

Using the Rigid Heddle with a back-strap, they were weaving in no time! The Textile Design students made wool warps in 2 colours, whereas those in Creative Arts had a free choice of yarns, resulting in some challenging weaving with mixed media in the weft.

The outcomes from this method of weaving are interestingly diverse; a woven ‘cloth’ can be created or an art piece using the warp like a ‘skeleton’ to trap twigs etc.
